Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026 (development build)

Socialize ("we", "us", or "our") operates a location-based community platform that helps you discover, connect, and collaborate with people nearby. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the controls you have over your information.

This build is still under active development. Some controls this policy describes elsewhere in the product (identity verification, automated media scanning) are not available yet. Where that's the case, this page says so plainly rather than describing a control you can't actually use. Pausing your account, hiding yourself from the Locals feed, exporting your data, and deleting your account are all real, self-serve controls -- see below.

Information We Collect

Account information: Your email address and password (hashed), managed by Supabase Auth.

Profile information: Display name, bio, photo, gender, interests, occupation, city, and what you're looking for.

Location information: Your approximate latitude and longitude, snapped to a k-anonymity grid (never smaller than a cell holding at least 5 people) before it's shared with anyone else. We also store your city name. Location data older than 30 days is treated as stale and excluded from the feed.

Usage data: Messages you send, broadcasts you post, event RSVPs, group chat participation, in-person meeting confirmations, reactions, comments, and blocks.

How We Use Your Information

  • Connecting you with nearby people based on your location and preferences
  • Displaying your profile, broadcasts, and messages to other users you interact with
  • Sending you transactional email (password resets, confirmations) through our auth provider
  • Moderation, including reviewing reports and removing violating content

How We Share Your Information

With other users: Your profile (display name, photo, bio, demographics) is visible to other members on the Locals feed and your own detail page. Your messages are visible to the people you're conversing with. Your broadcasts and comments are visible to other members.

With service providers: We use Supabase for our database, authentication, and file storage, and Vercel for hosting. Once configured, we'll use Resend to send notification email and Stripe to process ticket payments -- neither is active yet, so no payment or notification data is shared with them today.

For safety and legal compliance: We may share information with law enforcement or safety organizations when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

Your Privacy Controls

  • Location privacy: Your coordinates are snapped to an adaptive k-anonymity grid before being shared with other users -- never your exact stored position.
  • Pause account: Hide your profile from Locals entirely while keeping your existing message threads active -- toggle it from the Visibility card on your profile page at any time.
  • Visible on Locals: Turn this off to hide yourself from the Locals feed without pausing your whole account.
  • Block and report: Block members to prevent them from contacting you, and report profiles or messages for moderation.
  • Data export and account deletion: Download everything tied to your account, or permanently delete it, from Settings -> Privacy at any time -- no need to contact us.

Data Retention

Your data is retained while your account is active. Deleting your account from Settings removes your profile, posts, RSVPs, and messages, and anonymizes your contributions to other people's records (comments, group chat messages) rather than deleting those conversations out from under everyone else in them -- see "Your Privacy Controls" above.

Data Security

  • Broadcast media is stored in a private bucket, accessible only via short-lived signed URLs (1-hour expiry)
  • Every real write to the database goes through a server-side function with its own validation -- the client never writes a row directly
  • Row-level security policies restrict who can read or write each table, enforced by the database itself, not just the app

Identity verification and automated media content scanning (both described in the original Base44 product this is built from) aren't wired up in this build yet -- see README for the current state of each.

Children's Privacy

Socialize is restricted to users 18 years and older. Accounts found to belong to minors are removed. If you believe a minor is using the platform, please contact us immediately using the address below.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), you may have the right to access, export, correct, or delete your personal data. Export and deletion are self-serve from Settings ->Privacy; to correct profile fields you can't edit yourself, or for anything else, contact us directly and we'll handle the request by hand.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will note significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
